Student / Modo Teacher

Why do you love the Modo community?

I love that when I started yoga and showed up as a beginner, it never felt overly intimidating. I was able to grow my practice at my own pace and feel like I could dial back or push harder when I needed to, no matter what class I was taking. I love the sense of community, walking in the door and seeing people who genuinely want to be there, and connecting with others over yoga or other random life things.

Why do you teach yoga?

My goal for teaching is to hold a space where people can show up to practice in a way that feels good to them. While I am there to guide a class through a physical yoga practice, and ultimately because of the movements and holds, a great workout, the practice can be so different to each individual. I want to recognize everyone’s personal practice whether it’s physical, mental, spiritual or all of the above. I also want acknowledge the deep roots of yoga in South Asian culture & history and strive to continuously learn ways to honor those roots while balancing teaching a modern asana practice.

What yoga certifications do you have?

Modo Yoga Level 1 – 200 Hour Teacher

If you were an animal, what would it be?

A house cat- Really there are no cons. You can eat and sleep all day, you are probably fed expensive food because you have bamboozled your “parents” into thinking it’s all you could possibly deserve, your home is temperature controlled and away from the elements, but evolution has decided you still need predatory skills, so you don’t get messed with.

You have one day completely to yourself in Columbus.  What do you do?

Wake up and do a morning Modo Flow class. Walk to Cup O Joe with my husband and grab coffee and a muffin and sit on our front porch for the rest of the morning. Meet up with friends for a late lunch and cocktails on a patio and then head home and spend an ungodly chunk of time reading before tucking in early for bed.

What’s your favorite yoga pose and why?

Probably Toppling Tree- I like the combination of balance and strength and getting pretty much every muscle fired up at the same time

You can only eat at one Columbus restaurant for the rest of your life.  What is it?

Marcella’s!
